Biography
Tarek Abdul Basit was born in 1959 in Cairo, the seventh born child in a family of 11 children. He memorised the Quran at the young age of fifteen and under the guidance of his father, Shaykh Abdul Basit Abdus Samad.
After completing his secondary education, he chose to obtain a BA in the Faculty of Law and Military Sciences at the Police Academy, graduating with a position within the Ministry of Interior leading to a position as a Major General later. To fulfil his father's desire to complete his duty in the service of the Noble Quran, Tarek decided to secure a place at an independent and different school from his father and joined the Recitation Institute at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and after two years graduating with a license in the recitation of Hafs A'n Asim.
Tarek was very close to his father, and he accompanied him in his youth attending his meetings and listening to the recitation of his students. His father shared his intimate knowledge and wisdom with Tarek until his death. In addition to recording various events that included his visits inside and outside of Egypt, on November 30, 1988, Shaykh Abdul Basit Abdus Samad passed away at the age of 61, when Tarek was 29 years old.
