Launching Claritas Books

Claritas Books began as Awakening Publications in 2000. Its four founders felt passionately about books on Islam, and one had even written a book about the sirah when he was fifteen. This group of four friends decided to be the change they wanted to see in the world and start their own publishing house. They published their friend Sharif Banna’s book on sirah: The Sirah of The Final Prophet. It was their first book, and it remains one of their most popular titles to date.

As the years passed, Awakening Records (Awakening Publications’ sister company and record label) took up more and more of their time. The success of artists like Maher Zain and Sami Yusuf meant focusing on the music side of the Awakening brand: books were unfortunately sidetracked.

In 2018, they decided to return to their focus on books. Interested in contributing to the industry by filling gaps in authentic and modern Muslim literature, the only question was whether to continue as Awakening Publications or to rebrand. They decided to rebrand as Claritas Books to start with a new focus and to reiterate their dedication to books. Claritas in Latin means clarity. As the next chapter in Muslim publishing, Claritas Books strives to provide clarity on Islam and Muslims while upping the standards and reaching another level within the Muslim market.

Claritas Books is excited to publish a wide range of dynamic and credible voices on Islam and the Muslim faith in the 21st Century. Thank you for reading our story, and we look forward to sharing our books with you!
